What to expect when you see the Sleep Specialist
Initial ConsultationAt your first visit, the medical staff will record your medical history and sleep habits, which may include talking with your bed partner or other members of your household about your sleeping and daytime behavior. Getting TestedYou may be asked to go for an overnight sleep study (polysomnogram) to evaluate your sleep and record important information including brain waves, breathing, heart rhythms, muscle activity and limb movements during sleep. One or two of these studies are scheduled in an independent sleep lab or hospital, depending on the patient’s insurance requirements. It can take anywhere from one day to two weeks to get an appointment with the sleep lab depending on their schedule availability. After Your Sleep StudyDr. Hudson or Dr. Tempest will interpret your sleep study and provide a report for both you and your referring physician. The report will be reviewed at a follow-up appointment scheduled before you leave the office after your initial consultation. Treatment options will be discussed at this follow-up visit.
